Biography
Jann Stein, a professional harpist in Minneapolis and St. Paul, has been teaching and performing throughout the Twin Cities for more than 40 years.
Music has been a rewarding part of Jann’s life, and she finds much joy in being able to share it with others through performing and teaching. Her musical training first began on the piano when she was 9 years old in Sioux Falls, SD. At the age of 13, Jann began taking harp lessons with Frances Miller.
Jann received a Bachelor of Arts in Church Music and Christian Ed from the University of Northwestern - St. Paul in Roseville, MN, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN.
Jann is a member of Chelesta along with Julie Goos, a harp and flute duo; Harpourri, a harp quartet whose members also include Andrea Stern, Elinor Niemisto, and Min Kim; and also a harp and vocal duo with her husband Paul. She has also played with other instrumentalists, choirs, and orchestras. During college she traveled with the Continental Orchestra, based out of Thousand Oaks, CA, for two summers, giving concerts around the United States, Bermuda, Barbados, the Bahamas and Holland. Following college she was a Band Director and Elementary Music Teacher at New Life Academy, Woodbury, MN. Jann is an active member of the American Harp Society, where she has had numerous local and regional leadership roles. She has served as a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, and teaches private harp lessons from her home in Lino Lakes, MN (Minneapolis/St. Paul area) where she lives with her husband, Paul. They have been blessed with two wonderful children.
